The World is our Playground

Some things in America I have taken for granted.  One being playgrounds.  It’s always such a childhood treat to find a new playground and America is doted with a grand variety of these childhood pleasures.  Here in Indonesia we are fortunate to find a set of monkey bars.  So you can only imagine the delight as the knowledge of our world in Papua grows.  Here on the complex where we live, there are not monkey bars.  Yet, in the new hanger there are rolling carts.  In the old hanger there is a plane with no battery in it, so the children can let their imaginations fly to their hearts content.

Not only are we blessed with a lovely place to raise our family with a unique playground, but there is also a swimming pool.  It is about 15 minutes from our house and is chlorinated.  The pool is only open to the xpats living here.  What a wonderful reprieve, when the afternoons sore into the 90’s.  It’s a $100 for 6 months.  We are getting our money’s worth!  I do water aerobics twice a week there.  It is a great place to meet friends.

Speaking of friends I would like for you to meet Wendy.  She has two boys (Aubrey and Andrew’s age).  They were waiting at the airport for us when we landed.  Wendy loves to sew and made me two aprons, because I  keep getting bleach spots on my clothes.  Wendy has been a great help to me as we are still not able to drive our vehicle.   Last Wednesday we went to the library (full of English books!!!!), the pool, the grocery store, Dunkin Donuts with 6 boys in tow.  By then it was late and the boys were starving, so we ate a wonderful quick meal of Mac and Cheese with packets from the states.  Fun memories!

Jacob had the awesome privilege of getting to ride in the Susie Air helicopter.  He was at the right place, at the right time.  None of the other boys managed to pull it off.  I think Jake is quite proud of his new helicopter riding status!

So Darron’s first trip was very successful.  He was well taken care of and fed so many meals, he finally had to refuse food (which I was worried he would starve).  One night he was awakened at 2 a.m. to help deal with a 15 year old girl who was demon possessed.  I’ll let you keep checking his blog for the full story.  The pastor’s received his plans well.  Darron flew to Manokwari and Sorong for you map bluffs.  All the pastor’s in Sorong surf!  He hopes to take the family to Sorong in May as it is close to the Islands of the 4 King’s and everyone tells us we must go there.

We are already working on furlough plans….. Can’t believe we have been here over 5 months.  Thanks for praying and reading.  Check in again for more updates soon!  Take the time to go to a fun playground…..think outside the box.  You’ll be sure to find a great one!
