There is a Little Blue Church in Papua

We have been to quite a few churches in Papua (especially Darron).  One church wiggled it’s way into our hearts, even more then the others.  There is not enough sitting room inside, so each week people overflow to the outside benches.  The people are  so friendly and sincere.  Simple wooden benches sit on the concrete floor.  The people sing with enthusiasm.  It is only a 5 minute drive from our home.  Over 80 people pack inside (and just outside) each week.  Only 3 of the members own motorcycles.  Everyone else walks.

Last year we attended the big school church and even though it was nice to sing songs in English…..we didn’t feel like we were making a difference.  Here we know we can really bless them.  Going to church in Indonesia is an exercise in patience for all of us, as we strain to understand.  Sometimes it seems like it would be easier to stay home.  However, each week I pray that each of us would receive some little blessing from our time at church that we would not have received had we stayed home.  My motto each week is, “Better is one day in My house, then a thousand elsewhere”.

Today, one lady asked us to pray for her, as she desires her husband to become a believer.  With tears streaming down her face, she bowed her head crying out to the One who knows how to give great gifts.  The pastor of the sweet little blue church is Pastor Desmond.  He only comes about once a month, for he is head of the local seminary and has several other churches.  Pastor Desmond and Darron are very kindred spirits and meet together often sharing vision and dreams for Papua.  I am excited to see how God will lead and bless as we attend the little blue church in Papua, most weeks.
